VW Dealers In TDI Challenge

Calgary Herald reported that a group of Calgary Volkswagen dealers is presently testing the claim that the 2009 Jetta TDI Clean Diesel will get more than 1,100 kilometres per tank.

Calgary’s Jerry Sturko of Fifth Avenue Auto Haus learned of a Volkswagen dealer colleague in Halifax driving to Montreal to see the Canadiens play a game –and to test the 1,100km claim.

“I of course said, ‘So what?’ A real test would be to drive a Jetta Clean Diesel over the Rockies to Vancouver to see if we could get to GM Place on a single tank,” Sturko says.

He’s dubbed the test The One Tank Rocky Mountain Hockey Challenge.

The ‘challenge’ is to drive from Calgary to Vancouver on a single tank of bio diesel fuel. The dealer using the least amount of diesel would win this simple wager, and, of course, bragging rights as they watch the Flames take on the Canucks.

On April 6 Mike Velemirovich from Hillcrest Volkswagen Halifax will arrive in Calgary, as will Rand Cowell from Cowell Volkswagen Richmond B. C. and Denis Bernard of Clarkdale Volkswagen Vancouver.

Each VW retailer put on their appropriate team jersey this am –Habs, Canucks or Flames–as they fueled up and left for Vancouver.
