The last time i went to a VW dealership in Hamilton. I was greeted by the salesmanager just shaking his head and hanging it low when i inquired about the 2010 VW GOLF TDI. Preorders Preorders Preorders! on the positive side he did mention that the model comes out in September but the TDI model he could not give a time frame!

I inquired about the 2009 Jetta TDI Wagon and the upcoming 2010 Golf (a.k.a. Rabbit) TDI at a Toronto area VW dealership recently. I was told the Jetta TDI wagon is in short supply and the Golf TDI will not be available here until Spring 2010. The reason given was that "North America only counts for 3% of VW's global sales." I was left with the impression that NA barely registers on the EIC's (Economs-in- charge) radar over in Wolfsburg.

I am looking to get into a new car August 1st. The 2010 Golf TDI is a real contender. The delay of it's release and the Rabbit>Golf and Back again makes me uneasy about VWs Canadian dates and product line up. I like straight talk. The dealer is giving me nothing but misdirection.

Most other companies have already released 2010's. I am really interested in the new Golf TDI, but waiting until October is rediculous. Because of this, i will not be buying a VW, as i need a car for the summer. They can release them in Germany now, but not Canada, very disappointing.

I agree--I'd like to get rid of my Jeeps, but something has to be 4x4, and capable of towing another car on a dolly, or picking up a load of gravel with the utility trailer. However, my beef about the new TDI Golf is the re-cycled 2.0 Passat? motor...now VW has the worst of all scenarios: They aren't introducing the GTD for sportscar like handling/performance, and the re-entry model, while it has more power, has worse mileage. The TDI wagon will have to last another few 100K km I guess until until a factory hypermiler (like a Lupo-like 3dr TDI) and a T-5 get here before I open my wallet again.

OK....
So you got the clean diesel golf coming to Canada...
well... It's time to start bringing a clean diesel van here as well! And i'm not talking about a rebadged Chrysler. it's time to bring the T-5 Transporter/Eurovan so that those of us who need the space & hauling capacity of a truck can have a choice for fuel efficiancy.
With the demise of the GM astro/safari models it's a market segment that is wide open. How can VW be so blind.
