Jetta TDI Clean Diesel makes the 2009 Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s Top Safety Pick award

ARLINGTON, VA — Seventy-two vehicles, including the Jetta TDI Clean Diesel, earn the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s Top Safety Pick award for 2009. This is more than double the number of 2008 recipients and more than 3 times the number of 2007 winners. Top Safety Pick recognizes vehicles that do the best job of protecting people in front, side, and rear crashes based on good ratings in Institute tests. Winners also have to have electronic stability control (ESC), which research shows significantly reduces crash risk.

Hey VW… What about honor that prize here in Canada and include ESP as STANDARD equipment?
It’s quite disappointing pay more than US and on top of that don’t have the same equipments.

I’ve asked my friend Robert at Volkwswagen and here’s the answer:

The two markets are very different in terms of potential, and competition. Also the Canadian norms, and import taxes are far greater than in the USA making it impossible to offer the same packages.
