Supermileage
Since 1983, SAE International has organised its Supermileage Competition, friendly competitions that bring together university students from Canada and the United States. Their goal is to conceive and pilot single-person vehicles that consume the least possible fuel while at the same time coming up with the most innovative design.
Last year, two canadian universities, Laval University and the École de Technologie Supérieure won first and third place at this event. Laval achieved an incredible 0.07 L/100 km!!! Fine, we won’t be seeing these prototypes on our roads and in our garages anytime soon. But it is nonetheless reassuring to see these young students so seriously hard at work.
To give you a glimpse of the event (and the hotrods!), I found this little montage on YouTube. Enjoy!
