Diesel fuel and carbon
If someone at a dealership tells you that the new car you are looking to purchase has soooo much technology that it even filters the carbon out of the exhaust emissions… RUN!. No vehicle on the planet can filter carbon (although there is a research project at MIT experimenting with on-board carbon sequestration, but that is another story).
Let me make this clear: carbon CANNOT be filtered in a new car exhaust system! All carbon is a direct function of the volume of fuel burned. The numbers are about 2.7 kg/L of CO2 for diesel and 2.4 kg/L of CO2 for gasoline. From these numbers you can then calculate the amount of carbon emitted based on distance traveled and the stated L/100km value posted on the vehicle.
