GasBuddy.com

Several of you probably already know about GasBuddy.com, but I’ve just discovered it. What does it do? It’s actually a gas price aggregator that compiles local and regional prices from across Canada and the United States. Fed by volunteers concerned with the price of fuel, GasBuddy automatically collates all the data, which allows it to display in almost real time the average price of fuel in Canada’s provinces and largest cities.

The most popular section of the site gives the best gas deals in a given region. You’ll find the best prices today for Montreal, Halifax, Regina and Toronto, for both regular gas and diesel. But don’t get your hopes up too high. Not all gas stations are included in the site’s calculations: these depend on the number of volunteers and where they happen to be. So the best prices are actually only the best of those that have been sent in by users. An important distinction.

Nostalgia lovers (or those who have masochistic tendencies) will enjoy this chart, which allows you to clearly see the evolution of gas prices. You can go back up to 6 years, that blessed time when gas was going for around 70 cents a litre. You’ll notice that prices are in $/gallon by default. You can change this to $/litre on the control panel.

So what do you think about this site? Let’s talk!
